Is JJ Abrams the droid..er robot we were looking for?

So as most of you know by now, JJ Abrams has been in recent discussions with Disney to direct the next "Star Wars" film.  When this news broke, I thought the social media sites were going to explode.... literally.

While the reaction has been somewhat mixed, I feel that this is the direction the series needed to go.  No one can say that the last three films were in anyway near the level of the original trilogy (not to say the new ones will be either) but with Lucas' constant tinkering, it was time for him to step away from the series he created.

With the huge hole left without Lucas at the helm, it was up to Disney to find the next best thing.  That is what they found with JJ Abrams.

Mr. Abrams enters the directors chair with a lot of success already under his belt.  His involvement with hit TV shows like "Lost" and "Fringe" made him a household name.  However it was the magic he performed saving the "Mission Impossible" and "Star Trek" franchise from becoming completely irrelevant, along with his original idea films "Cloverfield" and "Super 8," that shot him into stardom.

This broad list of achievements is the reason I sleep sound at night, comfortable with the decision that Disney made.  While almost all of the projects mentioned were huge successes for Mr. Abrams, they all shared one thing in common, none of them suffered from being repetitive in design or lazy in story.  JJ Abrams was able to enter each film series' world, expand on it, and leave without destroying it.  Something that "Star Wars" is in desperate need of.

While only the future can tells us if this was a good decision for the "Star Wars" universe, I for one will sit with eager anticipation for my next trip to that galaxy far far away......

  1. You've got to be kidding! JJ Abrams is a tool, who ruined LOST, Fringe, and has made an embarrassment out of Star Trek for us true Trekies. Once Abrams started working on other things LOST became terrible, so much so that I, and millions others stopped watching it. Same thing with Fringe, it was okay when it started Abrams had others things come up and the show was terrible. I suppose that says Abrams is alright, but he's not dedicated enough to anything to see it through, especially a trilogy. If Abrams is all linked with the Star wars films I guarantee you that I will not be seeing them.
